Ira Sullivan—Circumstantial ncd-35

$17.00

Chicago jazz favorite Ira Sullivan left town in 1963 and had not returned until late in 1977. This visit was sparked by a chance encounter with Von Freeman in Amsterdam where Von encouraged his return. Ira was welcomed home as a "long lost son"; Joe Segal booked him for several weeks at his Jazz Showcase and record producer Chuck Nessa made this recording over two long evenings in the Streeterville Studios. Ira's rhythm section was composed of Chicago veterans Jodie Christian on piano, Dan Shapera on bass and Wilbur Campbell on drums. Also on board was Sullivan protégé Simon Salz on guitar. The CD contains a previously unpublished blues and a reminiscence of the events by Ira Sullivan.
